Blur

Blur is an exaggerated-action driving game for high-def generation consoles and home computers, featuring kart-style racing in realistic, urban settings. As many as 20 real-life sports car models zip bumper-to-bumper through street-racing courses, collecting and using offensive and defensive power-ups, such as "Shunt," "Shock," "Barge," and "Nitro." Licensed automobiles and real-time damage system convey a sense of speed and realism, while a forgiving physics model and over-the-top action inspire win-at-all-costs competition with lots of risky, bump-and-go driving. Because groups of cars tend to clump together as they speed through city streets, players are encouraged to apply their power-ups tactically. A single blast of energy at the right time and place can be just trick to clear a lane and take the lead, but saving and using power-ups in combinations of three can unleash even more course-clearing chaos. The single-player game follows a developing storyline, and virtual drivers gain rivals and fans as they go on to win more races. Online, players can make real-life fans and rivals as well, among other networked players. In good kart-racing form, the game features multiplayer modes, including split-screen racing for up to four. Blur was designed by Bizarre Creations, veteran racing-game developers of the Dreamcast's Metropolis Street Racer and the Xbox's long-running Project Gotham Racing series.

Released in conjunction with the Warner Bros. feature film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 comprises the final chapters of the final title in the interactive adventure series. Gamers take the roles of different characters as they progress, playing through pivotal moments in the conclusion of J.K. Rowling's engaging seven-book epic. In the style of Deathly Hallows -- Part 1, the game is more action-oriented than earlier Harry Potter adventures, featuring intense, fast-paced battles with powerful magic wand attacks. Teamwork is important in the game's most furious magical battles, as characters must work together to defend one another as they move through perilous levels dominated by Dark Forces. The adventure follows Harry and his two closest friends, Ron and Hermione, in their ultimate quest to prevent the evil Lord Voldemort from conquering Hogwarts. Away from the main story, the game also features a multiplayer battle mode. Tokens collected in the campaign can be used to unlock additional characters for play in head-to-head combat, including Voldemort.

For the last few Harry Potter videogames, the fun has been investigating Hogwarts, mixing up potions, and finding the hundreds of collectables hidden in the halls. In fact, if there was one part that always seemed to be "so-so," it was the wand-based combat. It seemed like Harry would just plant his feet, hurl a few incantations, and you'd move on to doing something more fun. Knowing all of that, it was a bit shocking to play the latest Chosen One videogame recently.
